Congenital Heart Center
Helping hearts for life
Congenital heart disease (also known as congenital heart defect) is a problem that occurs before birth, as a baby’s heart is developing during pregnancy. Congenital heart defects are the most common type of birth defect, affecting about nine out of every 1,000 babies born in the U.S., according to the American Heart Association. The good news is that expert medical care from before birth into adulthood is helping more patients with congenital heart disease live longer, fuller lives.
The Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Congenital Heart Center offers the area’s most comprehensive program devoted to the diagnosis, treatment and lifetime care for patients with congenital heart defects—from before birth into adulthood. We’re the only such program in West Michigan and one of the few centers in the country that can offer a seamless transition as patients mature into adulthood.
Our commitment is to provide each patient with a world-class care. Patients with all forms of congenital heart disease, from simple to complex, receive treatment from our specialized team. Our program is committed to improving congenital heart disease care not only through excellence in patient care, but also through research, education and advocacy.
For your convenience, we offer physician access in Grand Rapids, Lansing, Flint, Muskegon, Cadillac, Holland, St. Joseph, Grand Blanc and Traverse City.
