Mike Berenstain, author and illustrator of the children’s book series “The Berenstain Bears,” brought his friends Brother Bear and Sister Bear to visit with patients and staff at Spectrum Health Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Thursday afternoon.
Children gathered in the playroom on the 11th floor to watch as Berenstain demonstrated how to draw different emotions on the faces of his book characters. Afterward he signed copies of his book, “Hospital Friends,” for children and staff.
A few patients were even inspired by his drawing demonstration—they followed along and drew their own Berenstain Bears characters.
